Work details
The Picasso play was translated by my patron, Sir Roland Penrose. When it was to be performed at the Open Space theater, Carolee Schneemann and myself collaborated with the director on the design, to include concept, sets and props.
Amongst other things, I made a life size rag doll as a prop for one of the ‘little girls’. Her breasts and face were from life casts made from the actress who carries her. As a souvenir of the event, I made for Roland a box with life casts of the faces of the actresses who played The 4 Little Girls on each side of a cube. Each face is a different color, matching the headless dolls who nestle inside cavities in the top of the cube, a glass of wine within the central cavity.
