Arawak Artifacts

While living in the Caribbean, I spent much time absorbed in archaeology and in creating art recreating the culture and the people who were the original inhabitants of the islands. I studied their artifacts and made a series of detailed drawings, originally intended to illustrate a book on Arawak art and culture by my partner Nik Douglas. I wished to honor these artifacts by making my drawings as rich in details as possible, seeking to render every materials’ texture and feel. These are a few  of the drawings.
