Spirit Impressions

Work details

This ‘copy art’ series was done while I was teaching part time at Portsmouth College of Art. In the lunch breaks I would use their copy machine to make mono prints of my face. What I liked about this machine is that it would allow for pressure exerted when passing though copying process to result in a lengthening of the time it took to copy, creating a distortion/elongation of the image.

This practice with the machine resulted in the series I call Spirit Impressions because they feel so ghostly and other worldly.
