Early Sketchbooks

Work details

A selection of drawings from my sketchbooks at Farnham School of Art (1964-66) and Chelsea College of Art (1966-69). The drawings of art and artifacts in the museum show my interest in applying the kind of expressive constructivism of Giacometti in my approach. Others show more of the use of minimal line, inspired my my love of the Expressionistic draftsmanship of Egon Schiele.

My Bath studies are charcoals that I did looking down on my own body in the bath. The motif of the bath is one I continued to explore in many works, as with the theme of reflections.
